Diversity

Northern Souls is committed to equal opportunities for all, regardless of class, ethnic or national origins, gender, sexuality, disability or age. We are committed to taking positive action to promote such equality of opportunity.

This policy extends to all staff whether full time, part-time or temporary, and any person who acts as an agent on our behalf in employment matters.

Sustainability

At Northern Souls, we strive to produce films in a way that respects our planetary boundaries. The making of a documentary film requires enormous amounts of energy and, often, no small amount of travel. We wish to tell meaningful stories about the world and the people who inhabit it while ensuring that we have a healthy future in which we can share those stories.

Inspired by the Green Film rating system for sustainable film production, we strive to limit our CO2e emissions in the following way:

TRANSPORTATION

ENERGY

We aim to minimise how much we travel, especially regarding airplane traffic and the use of passenger cars. We prioritise public transportation, electric vehicles, carpooling and online meetings when participants are far apart. To limit our fossil fuel expenditures, we prioritise the use of local film crews.

We aim to use natural lighting whenever possible. We prioritise the use of electricity from power grids instead of batteries and generators. As we spend a lot of time in our Copenhagen office, we make sure to implement these initiatives in all phases of production and in all locations.

We aim to minimise our consumption of animal products, prioritising vegetarian and vegan options when at the office and on location.

MATERIALS

We aim to minimise the use of print based communication while being aware that heavy use of the internet is by no means carbon neutral. We prioritise renting, borrowing and recycling equipment instead of buying new or throwing out.
